IMPERIAL BEACH — The Imperial Beach Arts Bureau (IBAB) is thrilled to unveil the Imperial Beach 2021 Calendar: Becoming The City She Was Always Meant to Be; An Artistic Walk thru IB History. IBAB is offering the calendar as a love letter to our quirky community and a celebration of our roots as we journey together into the future.
The calendar is a timeless keepsake packed with historical artifacts and oddities about the area, with old photos and stories showcasing how this special seaside town came to be, and how public art has become integrated with our community identity. “The research team really dug deep into the rich history available from the local Historical Societies, longtime residents, and other sources,” said IBAB Executive Director, Dave Frink. “We hope residents and visitors alike pick up a calendar and enjoy the journey through IB history as much as we did!" Frink said.
Another useful feature are daily tide charts that help you plan your beach walk, fish from the pier, or join the surf lineup.
“As an Imperial Beach Arts Bureau member, I am incredibly proud of our efforts to ensure that all forms of art are present throughout our community for everyone to enjoy,” said Imperial Beach Second District Councilman Mark West. “It is proven that one of the most extraordinary things about art is its capability of turning any region into a choice tourism destination. From seniors to children, there are ways for everyone to engage in and learn from art. Additionally, I applaud all of the volunteers because they possess an unrelenting ‘can do’ attitude to complete numerous art projects throughout our city during this particularly difficult time, bringing hope to all.” West said.
The calendar makes a great holiday gift for your friends and neighbors. Quantities are limited and holidays are upon us so get yours early!
Calendars can be found at IB ClearWater Store at 238 Palm Ave., Vitamin Sea Wellness at 862 Seacoast Dr., and Surf Hut 710 Seacoast Dr. with more stores being added every day. Check our website for a current list, or order directly from the site.
This is IBAB’s primary fundraising program for the year, with proceeds from sales supporting public art, artists, and performances. The publication was made possible by generous grants from Cox, SDG&E, and AT&T.

IBAB is a charitable nonprofit community organization on a mission to empower and create art and community in our beautiful beach town. We seek to inspire residents and artists alike to celebrate the deep well of local imagination and to collaborate in beautifying the neighborhoods we share. We do our work with paint and chalk; we hide graffiti behind turtles and seals; we see utility boxes as canvases yearning for art; we sponsor festivals and scavenger hunts and town-centric activities in the name of beauty.
