Update Coastal Cleanup Day: County Volunteers Showing Up In a Big Way for Global EffortUpdate Coastal Cleanup Day: Volunteers with I Love A Clean San Diego Poised to Contribute Significantly to 2020 Global Effort
SAN DIEGO COUNTY (Sept. 25, 2020) - In a year where COVID-19 has hindered organized volunteerism, over 7,500 registered volunteers throughout San Diego County have committed to make their mark on the 36th annual International Coastal Cleanup campaign. A day before the event, data show the county’s registered volunteers make up 22 percent of all volunteers reported globally for International Coastal Cleanup.
“We are encouraged by these numbers and it is critical all volunteers report their results after their cleanup to make our effort official on September 26 for our region’s Coastal Cleanup Day,” said Lauren Short the event’s manager with I Love A Clean San Diego. “People in San Diego County are showing up for the environment in tough a year, so let’s make it count in this shared global effort.”
I Love A Clean San Diego piloted the close-to-home, socially distanced cleanup at the countywide Creek to Bay Cleanup in June of this year, which has expanded for tomorrow’s Coastal Cleanup Day.
Volunteer registration is still open at CleanupDay.org for Coastal Cleanup Day, September 26, 2020.
