SANDAG is shifting gears for Bike to Work Day

The 30th Annual SANDAG Bike to Work Day, scheduled for May 14, 2020, has been postponed to May 20, 2021.

SANDAG is committed to hosting a fun, safe, and successful Bike to Work Day event and it is our responsibility to protect our participants, staff, and volunteers. To ensure a safe and healthy environment for our region, the 30th Annual SANDAG Bike to Work Day has been postponed to Thursday, May 20, 2021. We are excited to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the San Diego region’s Bike to Work Day activities in 2021. Bike Month 2020

SANDAG is switching gears for Bike to Work Day to provide a variety of digital options to support San Diegans as they GO by BIKE for Bike Month in May.

Bike to Work webinar. Join us for a biking webinar on the originally scheduled Bike to Work Day, Thursday, May 14!  Learn essential skills for bike commuters, including how to ride safely and legally, route planning strategies, and valuable tips to make bike commuting more comfortable and fun. Hear updates on Bike to Work Day, current and upcoming bike infrastructure projects, and our regional bike network. Register today! 

Bike Month activities. May is still National Bike Month. Join the San Diego County Bicycle Coalition and Love to Ride for weekly Bike Month challenges, prizes, and classes to encourage you to GO by BIKE. Going out for a bike ride is a great way to get some exercise, enjoy some fresh air, and feel connected with the world around us.

Virtual employer bike services. iCommute will continue helping your employees GO by BIKE! Take advantage of these FREE employer bike services so that employees are ready to bike commute again soon. Choose from a bike commuting class or a virtual bike maintenance safety check.

Shared Streets pilot. 
In celebration of Bike Month this May, SANDAG is launching the Shared Streets pilot program to provide up to $5,000 to each of the 18 cities and the county in the San Diego region for temporary improvements that create safe and healthy spaces for people to bike, walk, run, scoot, and more during the COVID-19 pandemic. Applications are open now, and due by Friday, May 22.

2020 GO by BIKE Mini-Grant program. 
In January, 21 organizations throughout the San Diego region were awarded $60,000 to put on a variety of programs and events encouraging participation in Bike Month. For the time being, these grants have been canceled due to COVID-19 risks. Grantees have been given the option to amend their grant agreements for 2021.

29th Annual SANDAG Bike to Work Day. Rain or shine, more than 8,200 visits at 100 pit stops were recorded on Bike to Work Day, Thursday, May 16. Thank you to the record-breaking 7,593 participants who registered to GO by BIKE! Photos of the event can be found on the iCommute Facebook page.
