As the Beat Goes On! A Look into Imperial Beach Music Scene For The Month Of July

Jun 30, 2019 12:23PM ● By Paul Spear

It’s July, time for some fun in the sun, with the 4th of July bike parade and firework show, Sun and Sea Festival and live music.

Beginning at the Salty Frog on Saturday, July 6 fiddler rockers Lexington Field from San Diego released Dreamers in 2018. Their high energy live show is something you won’t want to miss. Darby Crashed and the Burns, Done Talking and Ember Valley will be joining them. Get ready to have a rocking toe tapping time at 7:00 pm.  On a side note, Darby Crashed and the Burns are hoping to raise $1000.00 by the end of the night for Teen Challenge of Southern California. Teen Challenge helps teens and adults with drug addiction. Finds hope and a future for teens and adults. Donate to their Go Fund Me page. Here is the link Enjoy the show.

Sunday July 7. Hometown Jazz man Jason Hanna Jazz Quartet is with DJ Jecs get you’re dancing shoes on starts at 9:00 p.m.

Saturday July 13 Head to the beach for the Sun and Sea Festival (the original sandcastle competition). Watch the sand sculpting teams compete, enjoy the food trucks, buy some arts and crafts and enjoy these musicians and bands. Luvalot Band kicks things off, back by popular demand Tyler Boone, Kimba Light and The Bayou Brothers close things out again. Shake off the sand and get to the Sun and Sea Festival after party. Hosted by the Salty Frog, It will be a collective mix of Metal, Rock and Rap with feature band of the month, local boys D.A.B. They are bringing SouthTowne Sham and Lucier into the mix at 9:00 pm. DAB is Steven Berry lead vocals and guitar, Noah Berry on the drums and Eric Dogol on the bass. This power trio will blow your socks off. If you didn’t get a chance to see DAB at the Cali Baja Arts Festival last month now is your chance. With their 2018 release of “To the Moon” check out their latest video “The Mountain”, see how many places you recognize around town. DAB is making a lot of noise within the San Diego music scene. Later this month they are at the Merrow for 91x Loudspeaker show hosted by Tim Pyles. With non-stop gigs around town, they are mixing their sets with original and cover songs. You never know what they are going to play, which is why DAB is so interesting to watch live. SouthTowne Sham is all rock n roll from South San Diego. Currently working on new material at Double Time Studios in El Cajon, CA. I am certain SouthTowne Sham will share some new tunes.  Lucier released 1100 God this year. Lucier full-length album full of hip-hop rhymes mixed with soul, R&B.

Head over to Seaside Candy on Wednesday, July 17 at 6:00 pm. For Open Mic Night, you never know who might pop in.

Friday, July 19 cruise back to the Salty Frog to see The Stick Up. Featuring Soul Ablaze Music, the Rough, Tennessee Tina and Riston Diggs, see them reunite at 8:00 pm. Swing back over to Seaside Candy on Saturday, July 20 for family-friendly karaoke night at 4:00 pm. If you still want to show off your pipes, stop by the Scoreboard at 9:0.0 pm. for the 21 and over crowd. It always draws a good crowd.
