Local Resident, Veteran and Member of Local Veteran's Organizations, Anna Cox is Working on Projects to Honor Our Veterans and is Reaching Out to Community For Support

Anna Cox, the Acting the acting Vice President of the Fleet Reserve Association Branch 289, House Committee Member of the VFW Post 5477 and member of the American Legion Post 820 has had discussions with Mark West, City Councilmember on a few projects that she is heading up that may be of interest to you.

She's united all three Veteran's fraternities to develop a proposal for a monument at Veteran's Park recognizing and honoring our departed Veterans of Imperial Beach. She would love to see all our Veterans recognized. That is why she is requesting names of veterans of all wars and conflicts from our community. Anna is also in contact with a representative at the National Archives to confirm the names of those connected to Imperial Beach. This project will take some time and city approval.

Also, She's spoken briefly to our Fire Chief, John French about creating a Memorial service for those lost on 9/11. Anna feels that it will help our community develop greater respect and appreciation for not just our Veterans, but our fire departments and police officers.

Along with these projects, Anna is fulfilling her duties at the FRA and VFW as well as assisting Ms. Glover with the Mar Vista Band/Colorguard. At this time the Band isn't a competitive band. They are trying to get approval and funding for competition uniforms.

And finally, a project Anna feels is very important and near if not at the top of her many projects, Anna would like to create a special "Welcome Home" ceremony for our Vietnam Veterans. Said Anna "Our Vietnam Veterans never received a proper homecoming and thank you."' She feels as a volunteer and member of these Veteran's organizations and as a fellow veteran, it's our duty to show our gratitude and appreciation to those that never received it. Anna is researching a few organizations that provide flights and trips to Washington DC for our Vietnam Veterans.

Per Anna "I have to be thorough and present all the available options before I can get approval from the city and/or the Veterans fraternities overseeing these projects. All of these projects will take some time. Feel free to contact me any time for a status update on these projects."

Lastly, Anna went on to say, " the City of IB has been very supportive. City Councilmember Mark West and Courtney Stephens (special event coordinator) both have been very helpful with providing me with resources."

Yours in Loyalty, Protection, and Service,
Anna Cox
