IMPERIAL BEACH DEMOCRATIC CLUB TO DISCUSS RE-DISTRICTING

The Imperial Beach Democratic Club is launching its 2019 Educational Series on April 4 with a panel discussion on efforts to protect voting rights and give historically disenfranchised populations a greater voice in government. The panel will be moderated by Marti Emerald and will include: Honorable Olga Diaz, Escondido City Council Theresa Quiroz, Former San Diego Redistricting Commissioner; and, Cory Briggs, Public Interest Attorney.

One of the initiatives that will be addressed is district elections."City by city, county by county, voting rights activists are pushing for district elections", says Anna Webb, President of the IB Democratic Club. "The City of Imperial Beach has taken a proactive effort to engage voters giving under-represented communities an opportunity for a more active role in the local leadership that shapes their lives."

This event will take place on Thursday April 4, from 6-8pm, at Seaside Candy, 150 Palm Avenue, Imperial Beach. It is free and open to the general public, but reservations are encouraged. Those planning to attend are asked to RSVP by email to: communications@imperialbeachdemocrats.com.
