IB Dems Gearing Up for 2020 as the Imperial Beach Democratic Club held its General Meeting on February 7th at Seaside Candy

IB Dems Gearing Up for 2020


The Imperial Beach Democratic Club held its general meeting on February 7 at Seaside Candy in Imperial Beach.     Nora Vargas, candidate for County Supervisor; Will Rodriguez-Kennedy, President of the San Diego County Democratic Party; and Kelvin Barrios, Vice Chair of the San Diego County Democratic Party were the guest speakers. 


Ms. Vargas, who is running for the First Supervisorial District in San Diego County, which includes Imperial Beach and Coronado, spoke about her efforts to ensure that marginalized communities have access to healthcare, transportation and education opportunities.  “Together we can build healthier and stronger communities and help ensure that government works for all of us,” she said.


Will Rodriguez-Kennedy is the newly elected President of the San Diego County Democratic Party.   He said that San Diego County is the fifth largest Democratic county   in the country and that its millennials now comprise a majority of its new Board.   Kelvin Barrios, the new Vice Chair and represents the southern portion of the County, explained how the County Democratic Party works with local Democratic clubs and helps support local Democrat candidates.


Anna Webb, President of the IB Democratic Club,  looks forward to ongoing communications with candidates and the County Democrats.  “With California's Primary Election moved up to March, 2020,  the IB Democratic Club is hitting the ground running to become a voice in developing and electing qualified Democrats for office in IB and throughout San Diego County,” she stated.


In other business,  the Club held elections for vacant positions on the Executive Committee.   The officers for 2019 are: President, Anna Webb;  Vice President, Ernie Gallindo; Secretary, Felicia House; Treasurer, Ramon Hernandez;  Vice President Membership, Marti Emerald; Vice President Communications, Sandy Brillhart;  Vice President Outreach, Josie Hamada; Members at Large; Yvonne Rossini Vasquez and Jane King.
