Sudberry Properties Starts Construction of Hampton Inn & Suites by Hilton at Breakwater Town Center in Imperial Beach

IMPERIAL BEACH, Calif. – Sudberry Properties and Tharaldson Development and Hospitality have started construction of a 100-guestroom Hampton Inn & Suites by Hilton at Breakwater Town Center, 771 Palm Ave.  The hotel, scheduled to open in early 2020, is a four-story, 62,000-square-foot project with “beach modern” architecture, a fitness center, breakfast and lounge area, business center and swimming pool.

The hotel, which occupies 1.5 acres and includes 100 parking spaces, is the final phase of Breakwater Town Center, a public-private partnership by the city of Imperial Beach and Sudberry Properties.  The town center occupies a prominent 4.75-acre site over a three-block area on Palm Avenue (SR 75) and serves at the gateway to Imperial Beach and Coronado.

Hotel guests will have easy access to Breakwater Town Center’s variety of eateries, including Baskin Robbins, Chipotle, Five Guys, Guahan Grill, Jersey Mikes, Poke 123, Starbucks and Wingstop, as well as national grocer Grocery Outlet.

Serge Dedina, mayor of Imperial Beach, said, “The new Hampton Inn will not only provide a high-quality hotel for guests visiting the coolest beach town on the planet, but the revenues generated can be used to make improvements throughout the city that will be enjoyed by all of our citizens. We appreciate the efforts of Sudberry Properties, Colton Sudberry, Estean Lenyoun and Tharaldson Development, to make this project a reality.”

The Hampton Inn & Suites’ development team includes Design Cell Architecture, an international firm headquartered in Las Vegas, and Watkins Landmark Construction of Carlsbad. The hotel will be owned by Heritage Inn of Imperial Beach, LLC, with Sudberry Properties serving as a managing partner.

“We’re happy to pave the way for the prestigious Hilton brand to enter the Imperial Beach market,” said Colton Sudberry, noting that Sudberry Properties has developed approximately 10 million square feet of commercial property with a market value exceeding $2.5 billion.

“The growth of new retailers, restaurants, and homes in Imperial Beach, led by the opening of Breakwater Town Center, has been very encouraging.  The Navy Base Coronado Coastal Campus, which under construction with a million square feet of new buildings and is planned to employ approximately 3,300 naval personnel, is just 1.5 miles from Breakwater and expected to boost demand for businesses throughout Imperial Beach,” he said.

Imperial Beach City Manager Andy Hall, said, “It was truly amazing to see the development team and staff work through such a complex project that will result in the completion of the Breakwater project by constructing the new Hampton Inn & Suites as the final, critical piece of the new commercial town center. Breakwater will provide great amenities for Imperial Beach for years to c
