Temporary Military Personnel at Naval Outlying Landing Field
(IMPERIAL BEACH, CA – November 9, 2018) On Wednesday, November 7, Mayor Dedina was invited to meet with the United States Navy and the Marines to be briefed about the temporary placement of approximately 800 Marine troops at the Naval Outlying Landing Field in Imperial Beach. Consistent with the statement from the Department of Defense, the Mayor was informed that the Marines will provide planning assistance, engineering support (temporary barriers, barricades, and fencing), fixed and rotary wing aviation support to move Border Patrol personnel, medical teams to triage, treat and prepare for transport of patients, command and control facilities, provide temporary housing for Border Patrol personnel, and personal protection equipment for Border Patrol personnel.

“Imperial Beach has a proud tradition of supporting the men and women that serve and protect our Country. I have met with the leadership of Naval Base Coronado and the Marines deployed to Imperial Beach and let them know of our support,” stated Mayor Dedina. He continued, “the senior staff of the City will continue to have regular communication with the Navy and Marines and provide them with any support they need from the City. I know that they will find the residents of Imperial Beach to be fully supportive of the military.”

The City of Imperial Beach will provide regular updates about the situation as the details are somewhat fluid and can change quickly. Several groups have asked what they can do to support the temporary military personnel. City staff will communicate with military personnel and provide details on support as soon as possible.
