7 Eleven Alleyway at 13th & IB Blvd Next-up on List for Mural? IB Beautiful Helps Promote
Local Artists While as New Murals Add Beauty to Imperial Beach.

Next-up for a new mural is 7 Eleven @ IB Blvd and 13th Street. The alleyway behind the building would be painted on completion of successful negotiations hopefully in October according to IB City Council Member Mark West. According to the owner of the 7 Eleven at IB Blvd and 13th Street, Nick Hundel, he is working with the corporate office to see if the would be willing to provide funding or at least partial funding. According to Nick, he like would also like to see the side of the store with murals by the parking lot too! If not fully funded or even if partially funded by 7 Eleven, there are hopes the money for the project could come from IB Beautiful.

Whether in full or in part, IB Beautiful has had its hands in financing almost every new mural that has gone up the City of Imperial Beach and has been prominent in helping local artists showcase the talent. This year alone they have been involved with murals going up at the AT&T Building, the Scoreboard, the alley by Chase Bank and State Farm. All of these have been on Palm Ave. They were also involved in the wall by the Bayshore  Bikeway that is filled with paintings of

birds that were inspired by Bryan Brillhart who does a features a different bird weekly that was photographed in Imperial Beach either at the Tijuana Estuary or beach. Bryan is also the official photographer for the Sun and Sea Festival and has photos of his displayed in Grocery Outlet on Palm Avenue.

Also involved in most of the organizing has been IB City Council Member Mark West, Todd Stands and David Frink of the IB Arts Bureau have played big roles in getting the murals painted. Pangea Seed from San Diego did a couple of the murals and newcomer artists to IB did 2 others.  Local Imperial Beach artist and newcomer Kristin Minchuk  who painted the mural at the Scoreboard with Baja Racer and
Landscape and newcomer Michelle D. Ferrera-Lubin did the wall at the alley by Chase Bank on Palm Avenue.

As mentioned before, One of the biggest contributors financially for all of this is thanks to our very own IB Beautiful which also runs the Imperial Beach Certified Farmers Market every Friday at the IB Pier Plaza from 2 to 7pm.

Lastly, it is with great sorrow that I announce Todd Stands who was so very instrumental in all of
this, especially ATT & Bayshore Bikeway wall is retiring and going to go off and travel the world. september will be Todd's last month with us. We Wish him the very best!

Mark West is hoping to line up 2 more murals for October. We will have the details when they become available.
