Apr 28, 2018 07:49PM ● By Paul Spear
Next Generation's STEM Talent was on Display Last Wednesday at South Bay Union School District's Innovation Expo as they Look to Create Sparks of Imagination and Promote Innovation!

The vision for the Innovation Expo is to create sparks of imagination, promote innovation happening in the South Bay Union School District, inspire students and families to be creative, and have fun doing it!

From about 4:30- 6:00 pm, there were booths from schools throughout the district displaying science and other creative projects, activities, and student speakers. Dinner with Keynote Speaker Daniel Aguirre, a former student of Nicoloff was held.

I Found My Hero and My Hero is Me! was the theme for the student speaker presentation at the expo. Grade level 5-8th could enter to be a speaker. Auditions were done by video submission and the guidelines to be a 5 minutes speaker at the expo included:

Option 1: Tell the story of a moment when you realized: You inspired yourself, OR You inspired someone else.
Option 2: Tell the story of an innovation you’ve developed which made you a hero to others.

In their presentation, they had to introduce themselves and tell which school they attend along with a short summary of their topic. It was suggested they include telling a joke, reciting their favorite poem, or telling a short story so that their personality shines through.

Selections were made based on topic variety, speaking ability, and engagement.

The Innovation Expo was held at the SBUSD District office grounds and Burres Auditorium at 601 Elm Street, Imperial Beach, CA 91932 and lasted from 4:30 to around 7 pm.
