Mariners Ask Community to Help Fill Stands Wednesday for CIF SemiFinal Championship Tournament Game Vs Castle ParkWith a 54 to 22 Trouncing against Valhalla on Saturday, the Mar Vista Mariners Girls Varsity Basketball Team will Advance to the CIF Semi-Finals of the Division IV Championship Tournament game for the first time in school history Wednesday night when they take on Castle Park at Mar Vista High School at 7 p.m.
The Lady Mariners who are 21 - 6 for the season will take on a tough Castle Park Girls Basketball Team whom they have already met twice this year with the teams spitting their match-ups. Castle Park won the first game 26 to 20 and Mar Vista took the second game 48 to 31.
The Mariners are hoping to get the alumni and community to come out and fill the bleachers. "Castle Park team travels with a large following and we don't want to give up are hope court advantage", said Mar Vista Head Track Coach Alton Colter who was there rooting on the team and has several of the girls on his track team.
The Coach and all the Mariners are working hard to get the gym filled with Mariner supporters for the game. On his Facebook page Coach Colter had the following request, "Imperial Beach community and Mar Vista Mariners alum you MUST come out to the Mar Vista High gym and support your Lady Mariners basketball team. Coach Neamon and her staff have coached the girls to a 21-6 record and this is the first time in Mariners history that our girls team has advanced to the semi-final round of the Cif playoffs. Our opponent will be Castle Park High. We Must fill the gym Wednesday night at 7 pm and get these girls to the finals. At least 5 of the girls are outstanding track/field athletes as well."
A special "Thank you" to Coach Alton Colter for the photos and Mariners Girls Basketball Coach Neamon for all of their help! We wish the girls the best on Wednesday and look forward to being there to support the team!
