The Port of San Diego welcomes the public to attend a job fair for opportunities related to the Tenth Avenue Marine Terminal Redevelopment Project, other local projects, and the Port itself. The event will take place Thursday, January 18, 2018 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at San Diego Continuing Education, Cesar E. Chavez Campus, 1901 Main Street, San Diego.
The Tenth Avenue Marine Terminal Redevelopment Project Phase 1, known as the Modernization, is a $24 million public works project that will result in a more modern, clean and efficient cargo terminal. In October 2017, the Board of Port Commissioners selected Dick Miller, Inc. of San Marcos for a $12.3 million contract under the first of three contract packages for the Modernization. The work includes the demolition of the first of two obsolete and underutilized transit sheds, excavation, grading and other improvements. Work by Dick Miller, Inc. began last month and is ongoing.
Dick Miller Inc., Port staff and project subcontractors will be at the job fair and will be available for questions about the Tenth Avenue Marine Terminal Project and other local job opportunities and Port projects. The Tenth Avenue Marine Terminal Project will involve work from the demolition, underground utilities, electrical and communications systems, and site concrete and pavement systems trades.
The Port is targeting this outreach to the neighborhoods around the Tenth Avenue Marine Terminal to ensure local workers know about job opportunities that are available on this project.

As part of Port of San Diego Maritime, the Tenth Avenue Marine Terminal Redevelopment Project supports the Port’s specialty cargo advantage by providing laydown space and flexibility for each cargo type. The plan envisions three distinct cargo nodes within the existing footprint of the terminal and is focused on current core specialties of:
The scope of work to be completed by Dick Miller, Inc. includes:
- Project, roll-on/roll-off, and break-bulk cargo such as military equipment, wind energy parts, shipbuilding steel, and vehicles;
- Refrigerated containers for fresh produce such as bananas or other produce; and
- Dry bulk cargo such as soda ash, aggregate and cement, used primarily in construction.
- Demolition of an obsolete and underutilized transit shed located adjacent to three of the terminal’s primary vessel berths;
- Disposal and salvage of the transit shed building and components;
- Excavation, grading and compaction of the areas under the demolished buildings to support a finished pavement;
- Site utility improvements; and
- Stormwater Best Management Practices improvements.
