Imperial Beach Marine and Beach Protection Ordinance Regulating Use of Polystyrene Passes First Hurdle

Dec 06, 2017 08:47PM ● Published by Paul Spear

The Imperial Beach Marine and Beach Protection Ordinance Regulating Use of Polystyrene and Non-Recyclable Plastic Disposable Containers and Packaging Passed its First Hurdle into becoming law as it passed by a vote of 5 to 0 to be presented for Final Approval at the next Imperial Beach City Council Meeting on Wednesday January 17th, 2018.

Once passed into law the City would have one month to become compliant with the ordinance and business would have 6 months to become compliant. Within the ordinance, there was a component for some small businesses to ask for help but what type of help wasn't discussed in detail. The ordnance was widely supported by the audience in attendance with a couple of organizations that support businesses over a wide area of the San Diego speaking against it.
