The Mar Vista High School Mariners Varsity Football Team Won Again on Friday Defeating the Santana Sultans 34 - 28 in An Exciting Non-Conference Game Played at MVHS to Improve to 4 - 2 on the Year and Their 3rd Straight Game!

When asked about the game, Mariner Head Coach Tyler Arciaga said, "another gritty win for us. Our kickoff and punt team did a fantastic job. Our kickoff team recovered two kicks (John Michael Ceballos and Damon Thomas).' Coach Arciaga went on to say, "Our punt team did a great job protecting punters Jake Borst and Cesar Macias along with limiting any returns from Santana (along with pinning them inside the 20 three times)."

In the game Santana got on the scoreboard first taking a 7 - 0 lead but the Mariners tied the game on a Touchdown by Marcus Ramirez at 7 - 7 in the second quarter. After a 20 interception return by #9 Junior M. Maclang, the Mariners scored again on a Touchdown run by #20 Junior Sebastian Burke and after a blocked extra point Mar Vista took a 13 - 7 lead in the second quarter and always had the lead the rest of the game. Mar Vista then recovered their kickoff to the Sultans and scored another touchdown with 5:15 remaining in the 2nd Quarter on a pass from about 10 yards out from QB Jacob Beck to #9 Maclang. and after their extra point was missed again they took a 19 - 7 lead before the Sultans narrowed it to 19 - 14 at halftime.

However, the Mariners continued to play inspired football and scored in the 3rd quarter on a 75 yard pass play from QB Beck to #20 Sebastian Burke and after converting their extra point took a 26 to 14 lead that they carried into the 4th quarter. After Santana narrowed the Mariner's lead to 26 to 21 with a touchdown of their own in the 4th quarter, #20 Burke scored on about a 47 yard run with 3:24 to go in the 4th quarter. The Mariners went for 2 points and were successful on their PAT to widen the gap to 34 - 21. Santana scored a touchdown with 1:45 left in the game but it was too little too late as the Mariners held on to win their third game in a row.

When I said that they've, the Mariners, look like they been playing very inspired football and look like they really give it their all, Coach Arciaga responded, "There's no doubt they do!'
