Mariner's Varsity Football Team Off to a Good Start

The Mar Vista High School Football Program Got Off to Another Successful Start as the Varsity, JV and Novice Teams all Scrimmaged Thursday on the Mariner's Home Field

The Mariner Varsity Football Team held it's first scrimmage of the year on Thursday. The Varsity scrimmaged against both El Cajon and San Ysidro yesterday at Mar Vista High School. The Varsity scrimmaged at 5pm and started off against El Cajon and then took a halftime break and came out and scrimmaged against San Ysidro.

Head Varsity Football Coach Tyler Arciaga expects to have a fun and successful season this year. Coach Arciaga said the team has a trip planned to Las Vegas and playing Bonanza High School. This year's trip is a follow up on last year's trip to Seattle where they played a game and had a chance to meet with the Seattle Seahawks Head Coach Pete Carroll. Head Coach Tyler Arciaga tries to take them to a different location to keep the program exciting and interesting. They've traveled to the LA Area one year to play San Gabriel. Said Coach Arciaga, "It's great because it gives the players exposure to different areas and hopefully besides making it exciting and seeing different parts of the country, it gives them chances to play in front of new crowds and improve their chances for football Scholarships." They have also traveled to San Francisco and of course this year they will have their Silver Strand rivalry and play Coronado.

The team's next scrimmage is Friday August 25th at Mar Vista High School against Monte Vista at 7pm.

If you didn't catch my video interview with Coach Arciaga you can view below. We had some sound issues with the wind and I have worked on improving the sound quality so hopefully you will enjoy this video at the bottom of the article!
