Hit Squad Outshines Summer Regular Season Competition

Jul 20, 2017 03:23PM ● Published by Bowe Fertig

The regular season of the Spring/Summer Co-ed Softball Season was once again dominated by Manager Jerry Moreno and Hit Squad as they went a perfect 10-0 for back-to-back seasons. In 9 out of their 10 games, Hit Squad beat opponents by double-digits. Victorious Secret gave them a run for their money Week 7 as Hit Squad held on to a 14-12 win. The defending champs are the favorites heading into the playoffs as the No.1 seed.

The other five teams made the race close for second place and a bye in the quarterfinals. It came down to the last week of the regular season for Scoreboard Hot Shots to take control of second place knocking multi-year champs Heavy Hitters down to third place. The third place and sixth place teams were separated by less than two games. The top four teams (Hit Squad, Scoreboard, Heavy Hitters, The Unknowns) are all veteran teams that have a chance to make a push in the playoffs. For many seasons it was the Heavy Hitters and Unknowns who found themselves in championship games.

The two bottom teams (Victorious Secret and Sons of Pitches) have made great strides since their first season in the league and are competing against the league’s best. As mentioned before, Victorious Secret lost by two against Hit Squad. GM Claudia Gasca will have her squad ready as they will face the Heavy Hitters in the first round of playoffs. In two games this season, they split the series as Heavy Hitters won 16-5 in Week 5 and Victorious Secret got one back beating HH 9-4 in Week 10. The matchup is shaping up to be a good one as Heavy Hitters beat Victorious Secret last season in the last inning of the semi-finals. Sons of Pitches will face off against The Unknowns in the first round. Sons of Pitches won both games during the regular season by a combined four points (8-6, 11-9). Anyone who knows sports knows it’s tough to beat a team three times in a season and Mel Antunez will have his team ready for a playoff push.

JULY 25: No.5 Sons of Pitches plays No.4 Unknowns at 8pm.
