First 100 Customers Received 25% Discount Coupon, Ribbon Cutting/Grand Opening Celebration Takes Place and $1,000 Check Donated to IB United Methodist Church for Food Bank Saturday at Grocery Outlet!

Hundreds of people were lined up early to get a chance to be 1 of the first 100 customers to get a 25% discount coupon on their next food purchase at Grocery Outlet in Imperial Beach when the doors opened at 8am on Saturday.

Another 100 plus dignitaries and citizens and IB Chamber of Commerce Members were there for the 10am Ribbon Cutting at the Grand Opening Celebration.  After the Ribbon Cutting, IB United Methodist Church Pastor John Edwin Griffin-Atil was presented a check for $1,000 for his work with the Food Bank from Marc Aronsohn, Owner/Manager of the New Grocery Outlet in Imperial Beach. IB Mayor Serge Dedina talked about the importance of having a first class grocery store in Imperial Beach and thanked all the appropriate people.

Tom Sudberry, one of the owners Sudberry Properties, developers of the Breakwater Town Center was on hand. When it came to his turn to speak he thanked both of IB Mayors during the 10 year process, current IB Mayor Serge Dedina and former IB Mayor James Janney, all the City Council Members during those years. Also on hand but not speaking with San Diego County Supervisor Greg Cox. City Council Members present included Ed Spriggs, Lori Bragg, and Mark West. Estean Lenyoun, from Sudberry Properties was there as well. Estean was probably involved in more of the day to day and details of the project and handed lead on it for Sudberry Properties. many other important people were there as well including outgoing IB Chamber of Commerce President Karen Odermatt who oversaw the Ribbon Cutting for the Chamber of Commerce.

After the Ribbon Cutting things were only just beginning as massive amounts of customers were coming and going all day. There were so many for while people were waiting for shopping carts so they could go shopping.

The IB Boys & Girls Club had a booth selling hot dogs and drinks for $1 with Grocery Outlet letting them keep all the proceeds from selling the food they supplied.

All in all it was a great day for not only Grocery Outlet but for Imperial Beach as well. Said Mr Dedina, the Mayor's father, in a conversation with me, 'This is a really big deal for Imperial Beach. We have been without a major supermarket since Safeway closed their doors in 1988.
