Controversial Mural Painted Over at 7-Eleven at Palm Avenue & 2nd St

Over the weekend a controversial mural was painted over that was on the side of the 7-Eleven at Palm Avenue and 2nd Street. When the painters were asked who hired them to paint over the mural by Todd Stands of the IB Arts Bureau told me that the painters said they didn't know. The employees inside the store wouldn't comment on the painting over of the mural.

It is clear the mural did not put a good light on Imperial Beach and it is not know if the City of Imperial Beach played any roll in the mural being painted over.

The City of Imperial Beach has said it did not play any type of roll in the removal of the mural and City Councilman, Mark West, said that he was very disappointed that the mural was removed. Both Mark West and IB Mayor Serge Dedina have played active roles in trying to bring art into the community.
