Mar Vista High School Varsity Baseball Season Ends In Hard Fought 3-2 Loss To Mission Vista Tuesday In The CIF Playoffs. The Mariners Played A Great Game But Came Up Short.
Jake Borst had a solid game pitching 5 strong innings and only giving up 2 earn
runs on top of his solo homerun and Eddie King had 2 hits for the
Mariners but it wasn't enough as the Mariners came up short losing to
Mission 3-2 on Tuesday. Elijah Burns also gave the Mariners 2
innings of solid relief pitching.
Mission Vista got off to a quick start with a run in the top of the first inning to take a 1-0 lead and held on to it until a Jake Borst solo home run tied the game in the bottom of the 4th inning at 1-1. However, the lead didn't last long as Mission Vista scored 2 runs in the top of the fifth inning to take a 3-1 lead. The Mariners attempted a comeback in the bottom of the 5th inning scoring a run to close the gap to 3-2 and had 2 runners on base but couldn't bring them in and the inning finished that way.
We congratulate the Mariners baseball team on a year they should be proud of finishing 17-12 on the year and 9-3 in the South Bay League which earned them a 2nd place finish. They had won 6 straight games before their loss to Mission Vista on Tuesday.
Although the Mariners lose 5 key starting players to graduation they will return 4 starters in addition to players coming up from a strong Junior Varsity team that finished 20-3 on the year.
We thank Mariner Head Coach Allan Delos Reyes for his help in covering the team and contributing to some of our articles. We wish the senior players the best in the future and look forward to covering the returning players next year.
