Port of San Diego to Upgrade Three Park Playgrounds

PRESS RELEASE: Marketing & Communications (619) 686-6388 on April 28, 2017.

Shelter Island PlaygroundAs part of its commitment to provide public access and recreational amenities to the region, the Port of San Diego is making upgrades to three of its park playgrounds along the waterfront.

In San Diego, playgrounds at Shelter Island Shoreline Park and Cesar Chavez Park will receive brand new playground equipment. Dunes Park in Imperial Beach will also receive new equipment. Additionally, the playground surfaces in each of these parks will be replaced with new resilient rubberized surfaces.

Each of the parks will be under construction for approximately two weeks. Work will first begin at Shelter Island Shoreline Park, located on Shelter Island Drive near the Shelter Island Fishing Pier on Monday, May 1, 2017.

Work on Cesar Chavez Park, located at 1449 Cesar E. Chavez Parkway, will begin on Monday, May 15, 2017.

Work on Dunes Park, located at 790 Seacoast Drive, will begin on Monday, June 5, 2017.

Zasueta Contracting, located in Spring Valley, CA, is the contractor on this project, which is estimated to cost $370,000.

All three parks will remain open during construction. However, areas where the playground equipment is located will be fenced off. A few parking spaces located closest to the playground area in each park will be reserved for the contractor’s laydown area.

The Port appreciates the public’s patience during the construction while it improves the park playgrounds.
