Mar Vista Mariners Topped
Olympian 4 - 3 on Friday to Stay Undefeated in South Bay League. On Wednesday,
they Beat Olympian 4 - 2. Face South Gate at Home Monday at 3:30pm.
The Mariners stayed undefeated in the South Bay League by defeating the Olympian Eagles 4 - 3 in a game played Friday at Mar Vista High School and are now 3 - 0 to start play in the South Bay League. Juniors, Eddie King & Elijah Burns, lead Mar Vista on Friday. King picked up his second save of the week while hitting a home run and striking out all 3 batters he faced. On Monday King picked up the save as well by striking out all 3 batters he faced and now has six straight strikeouts. Elijah Burns picked up the victory for the Mariners on Friday. Burns pitched six innings and only gave up one earned run while going 2 for 3 at the plate and also scored a run for the Mariners and had a RBI as well to earn Max Preps Player of the Game.
On Wednesday, in an away game at Olympian, the Mariners defeated the Eagles 4 - 2. Junior, Jake Borst, picked up the victory for Mar Vista and pitched a complete game going all 7 innings while only giving up 2 Earned Runs on 3 hits and striking out 5 batters. Mar Vista Senior, Andrew Meling, was named Max Preps Player of the Game. Meling had 3 hits in 4 at bats for the Mariners and also scored a run.
Up next for the Mariners is the Lions Tournament.and a 3:30pm home game on Monday against South Gate from the Los Angeles area. Tuesday and Wednesday Mar Vista will have away games while playing in the Lions tournament before South Bay league play resumes on Monday April 17th with an away game against Mater Dei at 3pm.
The Mariners Junior Varsity team had a rough week. On Monday, The Junior Varsity lost their first game of the season and their first game of the South Bay League season in a wild game. After leading 12 - 2, the Mariners ended up losing 15 - 13 as everything just seemed to go wrong after jumping out to a 10 run lead. Wednesday, the JV returned to winning ways defeating the Olympian Eagles 8 - 7 but lost on Friday to the Eagles 3 - 1 and are now 1 - 2 in South Bay League season but are 12 - 2 for the season.
The Junior Varsity's next South Bay League game is at home on Monday April 17th at 3pm.
