Lady Mariners Softball Off to Hot Start as they Defeated Southwest & Castle Park this Past Week to Improve to 3 - 0 in League Play!

 MVHS Mariners Girls Softball is Off to Hot Start as they Defeated Southwest 7 - 5 & Castle Park 20 - 12 this Past Week to Improve to 3 - 0 in League Play and 11 - 3 on the Season.

The Mar Vista High School Mariners Girls Softball team has literally hit league play running with a 3-0 start, defeating Southwest SD  7-6 on Friday. The Lady Mariners had the lead all the way until the top of the 7th when the Southwest Raiders hit a 2 run homer over the fence taking the lead in the game 6-5. Your mighty Mariners weren't finish and responded with hits in the bottom of the 7th with bases loaded set up for Senior Julianna Angeli who hit a line drive single to score the winning run. Abigail Rivera was the winning pitcher and helped lead her Lady Mariners going 4-4 at the plate including a triple. The win puts the lady mariners on a 5 game win streak. the Lady Mariners also opened the season on a hot streak winning their first 6 games before going on a 3 game losing streak and this now 5 game win streak.

On Wednesday, against Castle Park, the Lady Mariners won 20 - 12 in a high scoring game that was much closer than the score. The Lady Mariners lead 13 to 10 after 6 innings before scoring 7 runs in the top of the 7th inning to blow the game wide open. Taking a 20 - 10 lead. That victory improved the Lady Mariners record to 2 - 0 in league play before Friday's victory took them to 3 - 0 in league. Jazmyne Gomez was the winning pitcher against Castle Park on Wednesday and added to her own benefit with an over the fence homerun. The victory was the Lady mariners 4th straight win.

On Wednesday March 29th Mariners opened league play with a 5 - 0 victory over the Montgomery High Aztecs as they scored 5 runs in the 4th inning and never looked back. Freshman Pitcher Abigail Rivera had a complete game shutout against the Aztecs. Abigail Pitched 7 innings, only giving up 5 hits in the shutout as the Mariners opened league play with a 1 - 0 record.

The Junior Varsity also has been on a winning streak beating Southwest Raiders on Friday 21-3 and beat Castle Park on Wednesday 15-9. Team defensive and offensive leaders are shortstop Nia Hammond and 1st/3rd baseman Alyssa McCoy. The JV  are 9-5 for the season and undefeated in league play as well with a 3-0 record. The JV have been on a hot streak of their own. After losing their first 4 games on the year, the Lady Mariners have won 9 out of their last 10 games.

Up Next
The Varsity will be on the road to take on Chula vista on Wednesday April 12th before returning home on friday april 14th to take on San Ysidro. both games are scheduled for 3pm starts.

The Junior Varsity schedule is opposite of the Varsity as they will be at home on Wednesday April 12th to take on Chula Vista and will be on the road Friday April 14th when they play at San Ysidro.
