The Mar Vista Mariners Baseball Team Opens South Bay League Play with 4 - 2 Victory over Mater Dei!

The Mar Vista Mariner's Baseball Team Opens League Play with 4 - 2 Victory over Mater Dei! Jones, Ortiz and King hold Mater Dei to 2 runs as Mariners Improve to 6 - 6 on Season.

Sean Jones held the Mater Dei Crusaders to 1 run over 5 innings and a 3 run outburst put the Mariners ahead 4 - 1 as the held on to win their first victory to open up play in the South Bay League and improve their record on the year to 6 - 6. Sean Jones, Daniel Ortiz and Eddie King combine to hold Mater Dei to 2 runs on the day.

Daniel Ortiz came in to pitch in the 6th inning giving up a run but the Mariners held the lead 4 - 2 and Eddie King came in to pitch a perfect 7th inning holding the Crusaders scoreless to earn the Save in the Mar Vista's South Bay League opener. 

The win comes after the Mariner's lost two tough games last week by 1 run in each game. Losing to Kearney 3 - 2 and Monte Vista 4 -3 after leading the game going into the last inning.

Gabriel Preciado, Eddie King Jake Borst all drove in runs for the Mariners.

The Junior Varsity lost their first game of the season in a wild game. After leading 12 - 2, the Mariners ended up losing 15 - 13 as everything just seemed to go wrong after jumping out to a 10 run lead. The JV team is now 11 - 1 for the season.

Up next for the Mariners is Olympian. The Varsity will play at Olympian on Wednesday at 3pm while the Junior Varsity will host Olympian at 3pm on Wednesday. On Friday the Varsity will be at home against Olympian while the JV will play at Olympian. All games will start at 3pm.
