The Mar Vista High School Mariner Varsity Baseball Team Starts "Grossmont Metro City Tournament" with 3 Wins! Up Next for the Mariners is a tough Monte Vista game on Monday the 27th at the Monarchs home field.

Mar Vista Varsity baseball team traveled to High Tech High San Diego and played their second game of the Grossmont Metro City Tournament. They took on the Storm on their home turf. After the first 2 batters made outs, Jr. Eddie King lined a base hit to right center but unfortunately what should have been a double became just a single. Eddie had pulled a hamstring muscle and could only reach first base. Jake Borst continued his hitting spree by hitting a double and placed runners on 2nd and 3rd. Gabe Preciado hit a line drive and scored both Eddie and Jake, but Gabe was thrown out after taking too wide a turn rounding 1st base. The pulled Hamstring proved costly to starting pitcher Eddie King and had to be taken from the game without throwing a pitch. Jr. shortstop Eli Burns was summoned from his position and took the mound and threw a great game. The Mariners hit attack scored 7 runs in the first 4 innings to three for the Storm over the same period. Eventually the Mariners scored 2 more runs in the 7th inning running their total to 9 runs. Jr. pitcher Sean Jones came in in the 5th inning and proceeded to shut down the Storm bats. The stubborn Storm was not done. In the last half of the seventh inning Jones ran into trouble and the storm battled back and scored 4 runs on a grand slam. Jones was replaced by Jr. Daniel Ortiz and the Storm pushed across another run making the score 9 to 8. With the tying run at third and the winning run at second Ortiz finally struck out the next batter to preserve the win for the Mariners. Jake Borst went 3 for 3 with 3 doubles and 2 RBIs Michael Wilson contributed a single and had some great defensive plays taking away hits for the Storm. Gabe Preciado flashed the leather digging out throws and saving plays on tough outs. He also had 2 hits and 3 RBIs.

The Mainers then hosted the Morse High Tigers and defeated the Tigers by a10 to 3 margin. The Mariners fell behind the Tigers after the 1st 2 innings by a 3 to 1 score. The bats finally woke up by scoring 1 in the 3rd inning and scoring 5 times 4th inning and 3 more times in the 6th inning. Sr. Gabe Preciado threw for 5 innings and was relieved by Sr. Jacob Hinojosa who shut down the Tiger attack. Jake Borst continues to swing a hot bat hitting 2 more doubles and hitting in 3 more runs. Preciado also knocked in 2 more runs. Sr. Zach Burns also contributed by driving in 2 runs with a triple. Mike Wilson continues to get on base with another hit and stole 2 more bases and scored 2 runs. Jr. Eli Burns also scored 2 runs. After the first 3 games in the Grossmont Metro City Tourney Mar Vista finds itself 3 and 0 with a tough Monte Vista game coming up Monday the 27th at the Monarchs home field. The Kearny Komets will then come to town on Wednesday the 29th at 3:30 pm.
