Saturday the MVHS Mariner Baseball Team Defeats Stubborn High Tech High 7 to 5

On Saturday, the Mar Vista High School Mariner Baseball Team Defeats a Stubborn High Tech High San Diego Storm 7 - 5 and Improve Their Record to 2 and 1 on the Season. Face Monte Vista there on Tuesday

Mar Vista started the 2017 season playing in the Sweetwater Invitational, formerly the Bully’s East Baseball Tournament. The Mariners played The Bishops School Knights and lost 9 to 1 at the Knights Field. First Team All League Junior 3rd baseman/Pitcher Eddie King went 3 for 4 and drove in the only run for the Mariners. Starting pitcher Eli Burns scored the run and also contributed 2 singles. 3rd year starting catcher, 1st Team All League Junior Jake Borst and 1st Team All League Senior Gabe Preciado also contributed with doubles for the Mariners.

The Mariners then took on the Morse High Tigers Thursday March 9th and the bats came to life defeating the Tigers 17 to 2. Jr Eddie King was on the mound and pitched 5 shutout innings striking out 8 Morse Tigers giving the Mariners their first win of the season. Sean 

Jones finished the game pitching the final 2 innings. The Mariners took advantage of their home field. Jake Borst, Seniors Zach Burns, Michael Wilson and Andrew Melling led the hit attack with 3 hits apiece. Junior Shortstop / pitcher Eli Burns, DH / outfielder Zach Rall and Senior first baseman Gabe Preciado contributed with 2 hits apiece. Senior outfielder Roman Marquez, Junior outfielder/pitcher Daniel Ortiz and Sophomore Zach Hastings rounded out the hitting with 1 hit apiece.

The High Tech High San Diego Storm were hosted by the Mariners last Saturday the 11th of 

March. The stubborn Storm finally fell 7 to 5 to the Mariners. Junior Daniel Ortiz started the game and pitched 5 innings giving Mar Vista their 2nd win of the season. Senior Left handed pitcher Chris De La Torre came In the 6th inning shutting down the Storm allowing 1 run and getting his first save of the season. Jake Borst continued his torrid hitting streak with 3 more hits including a double. Ortiz, Zach Burns and Zach Hastings all contributed with 2 hits apiece.

Mar Vista will travel this Tuesday taking on the 2 and 1 Monte Vista Monarchs at 3:30 Then finish off the tournament at Mount Miguel on Thursday at 3:30 pm. Come on out and cheer on your Mariner baseball Team!
