The Tijuana Estuary Hosted a Gathering of Community Officials and Residents to Address the Current Sewage Crisis and Elicit Support Through a Letter Writing Campaign.

A large gathering of Community Residents from Imperial Beach, Coronado, San Ysidro and Chula Vista were present to write letters and hear interviews with area Local and State elected Officials regarding the massive discharge of 143 Million Gallons of raw sewage which had taken place over a two week period, from Mexico via the Tijuana River.

There were present the Mayors from IB, Coronado and San Ysidro, City Council members from IB and Coronado and Congressmen from those Cities and Chula Vista who spoke about presenting a collaborative front for the State of California and the City of San Diego to request declaring a State of Emergency by Mayor Kevin Faulkner so the request could be forwarded on to Governor Jerry Brown.

The only way to get Emergency Assistance from the Federal Government to declare a State of Emergency and then provide assistance and funding to fix the sewage and trash issue, is through the Governor.

A table was set up manned by voluntary staff of Surfrider Foundation San Diego Chapter, who provided letter writing templates for Residents to complete and send to our elected officials.

In support of this campaign, there were several families with children carrying signs and expressing their concern and frustration over this issue.

There was a following meeting after this and you can read about it here

Thursday's International Boundary & Water Commision (IBWC) Citizens Forum Offer's No Solutions For Sewage Spill Problems. The Forum was Attended by about 125 Angry & Frustrated Citizens living in South San Diego.
