SALT WORKS BIRDING TOUR WITH AUDUBON
This area is normally closed to the public due to the sensitivity of the nesting birds, and, because the commercial salt works is still in operation. During the winter, Audubon leads bird walks to learn about the history of the salt works, and the refuge.
We also look for birds, including Peregrine Falcons, Belding’s Savannah Sparrows, as well as wintering shorebird and waterfowl species.
There is a choice of 2 walks on flat terrain. One is about 2.0 miles, retracing its route. The other is 5 miles, and will follow the perimeter of the levees.
Restroom available is a portable restroom.
These events are limited to 30 participants, and registration is required at: http://www.sandiegoaudubon.org/events/field-trips
Directions: Take I-5 to Chula Vista and exit on Palomar Street. Go west to the T-intersection at Bay Blvd. and turn left. Drive .3 miles and park on the right outside the gated fence.
