IB Storm Update
What a great display of community! During the past several days, Imperial Beach experienced a significant storm event. In addition to an unusual amount of rain, the City endured wind gusts approaching hurricane speeds. Many trees were either toppled or sustained damage, power lines were downed, and storm drainage facilities were running at capacity. Throughout the event, the entire community came together to make sure neighbors and friends were safe. In addition to the great work from our Public Safety crews (Fire Department, Lifeguards, and Sheriff's Department) and Public Works Department, it was amazing to see residents helping residents, local businesses step forward, and everyone working together to lend a helping hand.
Due to power outages and the need for a well-coordinated effort, residents were instructed to use 911 to report damage and request assistance. At this time, we have been asked to return to using the normal non-emergency dispatch contact numbers:
Please know that our City crews will be cleaning up debris and recovering from the storm for several days. There has been an attempt to prioritize the work to address public safety, interference with storm drain facilities, traffic circulation, and other factors. It may take some time, but I am confident you will be surprised how quickly our great employees will respond to this situation.
Thank you for being so helpful and supportive during this storm. As staff, we will debrief and learn from this experience and look forward to being even more responsive in the future. If you have any suggestions or recommendations, please do not hesitate to contact me by email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Thank you, Andy Hall
