A bit about Shelby Marzoni:
Shelby Marzoni has been living in the Imperial Beach area for 27 years. She grew up in Rockford, Illinois, and lived for many years in Indiana. She has been studying with Olya Losina for several years. Her painting titled “Spring Creek Elementary, 1960” was included in the 2013 Athenaeum exhibition. She has exhibited for the past two years at On the Edge Gallery in La Mesa, where in 2013 she received a People’s Choice Award and a solo exhibition. She also participated in a group show last year with other artists from Losina Art
Center. Several of her “rock-and-roll” themed portraits have been on display at Rock and Roll San Diego and Chula Vista Music Academy. Emerald C Gallery in Coronado also shows her work.
Shelby works mostly in acrylics and a combination of acrylic and mixed media. Although travel-based landscapes and surf art are an important part of her repertoire, Shelby is passionate about portraying human subjects in novel ways. Musicians, famous and not-yet famous, are a favorite theme. She is currently expanding her series of grisaille portraits of rock-and-roll stars and a fauvist depiction of the iconic Rat Pack.
Shelby is currently working with Olya Losina at Prima Materia (formerly Losina Art Center) toward certification as an instructor. Her teaching experience includes several “paint-and-wine” events and several years experience teaching art to junior high and high school students in an after school program.
