Flooding Delays Imperial Beach Grand Opening!

Jan 03, 2017 04:38PM ● By Paul Spear
An Overnight Pipe Break Outside The Imperial Beach Library Has Delayed The Grand Opening of the New Library Indefinitely!

A pipe brake just outside the east end of the new Imperial Beach Branch Library apparently
broke during the night filling the new library with an inch or so of water according to one worker outside the Library that I spoke with.Workers found the flooding when they arrived for work around 6am. In speaking with the worker he told me other than the carpeting not much else had gotten damaged from what he had seen and heard. There were a few books damaged but most items had been stacked higher.

Besides the Grand Opening being postponed indefinitely, the Library had a tour scheduled for the media today that was cancelled as was the soft opening scheduled for January 4th.
SD County Supervisor Greg Cox and IB Mayor Serge Dedina were supposed to be getting a tour today along with selected media including

The new Director of San Diego County Libraries, Miguel Acosta was on hand to see the flooding and was probably part of the group that was supposed to be getting a tour of the Library, which he did, just not the way he had hope for.

It was said the pipe that broke was a city pipe from the park but at early stages in these types of things that may not be correct. Just as soon as there is more information we will be sure to get it to you!
