Highly Anticipated Co-Ed Softball League Off to Hot Start

Dec 23, 2016 01:00PM ● Published by Bowe Fertig

In what has been anticipated as one of the most competitive seasons in Imperial Beach Co-Ed Softball, the league opened Week #1 with two-of-the-four games ending in a tie. The two games that ended in ties had veteran teams playing against newcomers which displays the excitement the league has built up. The Unknowns have been runner-up the past two seasons and tied with Land Graphics, 15-15, and Hit Squad who competes every year tied with split-team Bat Attitudes, 11-11, after scoring seven runs in the final inning. The other two veteran teams Heavy-Hitters and Hot Shots started the season strong beating second-season teams Victorious Secret and Sons of Pitches.

Co-Ed Softball in Imperial Beach is beginning to build momentum as this season provides a good mix of veteran teams with newer teams. The league has had consecutive seasons with 8 teams and is hoping to expand to two nights per week. “There are some teams who are really competitive and some teams who more enjoy going out and having a good time with their friends and families. Our goal is to have a night with competitive teams and a night with less-competitive teams to create a better atmosphere and playing experience for all,” said Program Director Bowe Fertig.

Week’s #2 and #3 played out as most would have anticipated as top-touted teams Heavy Hitters and The Unknowns had clean sweeps staying atop of the standings. Hit Squad rebounded Week #2 beating Sons of Pitches 20-6 but would come up short to Heavy Hitters Week #3 losing 13-7. Newcomer Land Graphics ascended up the standings with two convincing wins over Hot Shots and Victorious Secret while both Hot Shots and Victorious Secret played tough but had heart-breaking losses.

The league will resume after the holidays on January 3rd. The match ups to look forward to Week #4 are The Unknowns versus Bat Attitudes (a rematch of last season’s semi-final game), and Land Graphics against Hit Squad who always has upset potential.

Below are the standings through three weeks....

Heavy Hitters 3-0

Land Graphics 2-0-1

The Unknowns 2-0-1

Bat Attitudes 1-1-1

Hit Squad 1-1-1

Hot Shots 1-2

Victorious Secret 0-3

Sons of Pitches 0-3
