IB Forum Heavy Hitters win Sixth-Straight Title

Nov 09, 2016 11:57AM ● Published by Bowe Fertig

The Fall season is in the books for Co-ed Softball on Tuesday nights as No.1 seed IB Forum Heavy Hitters repeat for the sixth-straight season defeating No.2 seed The Unknowns 10-9.

In what was a repeat of last season’s Championship Game against The Unknowns the outcome was the same. In the Summer season Championship game Heavy Hitters won 9-5 and this year The Unknowns gave them a run for their money taking the game all the way into the seventh inning. The game went back and forth through the first two innings as both teams would exchange runs tied at four. The Unknowns would go ahead in the top of the fourth inning taking a 6-4 lead, but the bottom of the fifth was the decisive inning as the Heavy Hitters plated five. Manager Mel Antunez and The Unknowns cut into the deficit and tied the game at 9 in the top half of the sixth, but were blanked in the seventh. That’s when Mark Borst with two outs would drive in the game-winning run with a line drive down the right field line to give the Heavy Hitters a 10-9 victory.

The semi-final game wasn’t any easier for the champs as newcomer Victorious Secret fought with everything they had. Manager Claudia Gasca and her Victorious Secret brought energy to what was a tense game as they lead the majority of the game. It was the experience of the Heavy Hitters that prevailed as they scored six runs in the bottom of the sixth to win a 13-13 tie (top seed advances).

The Boys and Girls Club of South County didn’t provide enough fire power on offense as they struggled to string hits together. The Club upset the No.3 seed to get to the Semi’s but poor defense and untimely hitting was the demise to the first-year team. The Unknowns would defeat The Club 11-5 in semi-final game #2.

In a league that is becoming more competitive Congratulations to Managers Autumn and Tim Collins, Rick Quinones, Ashley, Allie, Ann Marie and Chad Harbin, Mike Hastings, Mark Borst, Bobby Rector, Jamie and Ron Billings, Kylie Kavanagh, Leslie Jones, Izzy Bracket, and Nora on your Championship run.
