According to Published Reports the Navy will Begin Construction of the New Coastal Campus on November 7th.

The new Naval Base Coronado Silver Strand Coastal Campus is due to begin construction on November 7th according to published reports.

The first phase involves the alterations to traffic patterns from Rainbow Drive in Imperial Beach through the entry to The Coronado Cays.  Implementations will be specifically the reduction of the Silver Strand by one lane moving South to the Cays from Imperial Beach, and then from the Cays to the entry gate to the Naval Amphibious Base (NAB).  The pattern will be reversed going North from the NAB through to Imperial Beach.  The hours of lane reduction will be from 9am until 4pm Monday Through Friday.

The plan further calls for a reduction in speed on the Strand from the 65mph to 55mph to facilitate construction and protect workers during construction.

There will be special temporary signage directing commuters along the strand of these changes in traffic patterns.

It is anticipated that perhaps 500 trucks per day will be entering the Strand, so more traffic congestion should be anticipated and expected so planning ahead will be necessary.
We will be publishing more information as it becomes available, and any changes to construction plans.
