Encore Capital Group Partners with San Diego Habitat for Humanity to Repair Homes in Imperial Beach
Volunteers participating in Global Volunteer Day
IMPERIAL BEACH, CALIFORNIA– This past Saturday, a total of 60 employees from Encore Capital Group in San Diego came together with San Diego Habitat for Humanity to improve living conditions for two families in Imperial Beach.
California State Assembly Speaker Emeritus helped get the event started at a brief morning
ceremony. The effort was part of the international finance company’s fourth annual Global Volunteer Day, with more than 350 employees across the United States and around the world building homes with Habitat for Humanity.
"Supporting community residents most in need to achieve financial well-being is a key goal of Encore’s corporate social responsibility program,” said Sheryl Wright, Senior Vice President of Corporate Affairs at Encore Capital Group. “Our company and our people are excited to support this work by volunteering with organizations like Habitat for Humanity.”
Volunteers from Encore Capital Group made energy efficient repairs to a roof, built fences and gates, painted, repaired a dilapidated shed, and installed low-maintenance, drought-tolerant landscaping.
They also built two playhouses for needy children through Habitat’s Playhouse Program. Habitat partners with other nonprofits such as Head Start and the Angels Foster Family Network to provide playhouses that create creative pretend worlds for children who never dreamed they would have such a space of their own.
Encore Capital’s corporate philanthropy is helping to build or repair homes like the one owned by the family of Trell Garman, a 71 year-old retiree, since 1953. Trell grew up in this home, and moved back in in 1990 after she inherited it from her parents. The repairs she received will allow her to live in dignity and safety in the home she has built so many memories in, in the neighborhood she loves.
Stories like these motivate Encore employees to volunteer. Encore’s Corporate Social Responsibility program, launched in 2013, focuses on economic empowerment and strives to help improve communities through better education, job training and basic support services.
“Habitat for Humanity builds homes, communities, and hope. We are grateful for the support of great partners like Encore Capital, who help to improve entire communities through their generosity”, said Lori Holt Pfeiler, President and CEO of San Diego Habitat for Humanity. Together, we’re not just providing a coat of paint, new landscaping, or a sturdy fence. We are providing homes where families can thrive. We are providing energy-efficient homes that cost less to maintain. We are providing stability, strength, and self-reliance through shelter. These are the building blocks for a brighter future.”
The Encore Capital Group Global Volunteer Day activities took place at 1031 and 1056 7th Street in Imperial Beach.
