(San Diego, CA.) – An estimated 35,000 - 40,000 fans showed up at Imperial Beach Pier on Sunday for a free concert by local rock band Switchfoot, produced by radio station 91X.

The event included a welcoming on stage by City of Imperial Beach Mayor Serge Dedina, who also played a spontaneous jam with drummer Wuv Bernardo from P.O.D., another rock band from the South Bay area.

"The people, the beach, the pier, the sunset... that was about as good as it gets!" said Tim Foreman, bassist for Switchfoot. "Imperial Beach welcomed us as their own, and made us feel like family. To pull off a surprise show like that, with only a couple days notice, and to have that many people show up and sing along, that's unbelievable. We'll be smiling about this one for a very, very long time."

"The City of Imperial Beach is grateful to Switchfoot and 91X for the historic, moving and inspiring concert,” said Dedina. “Switchfoot brought together our community in unity and to have the band play incredible music against a backdrop of beautiful surf, sand and the sunset was unforgettable. The fact that Tim Foreman surfed with me and a bunch of local kids on Monday morning at the pier made it even sweeter. We're looking forward to partnering with 91X for future seaside concerts, but Switchfoot will always be part of the Imperial Beach family."

City officials also confirmed this as the first concert ever held on the Imperial Beach Pier.

91X Program Director Halloran said, “I am beyond pleased at how this whole event came together so quickly. I must thank the super-positive crew from I.B.; the mayor, Serge Dedina, Ken Irvine who loved the idea and pushed it uphill, Dean Roberts and Tom Santos from the Fire Department, and all of the other folks in the city of Imperial Beach who said.. ‘YES, WHY NOT?’  Also, mad props to the band Switchfoot for putting on such an amazing, inspiring show.  I can’t wait to do it again.”

91X is owned by Local Media San Diego, LLC; a San Diego-based broadcasting company backed by private equity firm, Thoma Bravo, LLC.  LMSD also operates Z90.3 (XHTZ-FM) and Magic 92.5 (XHRM-FM) as a member of SD Local, a joint operating arrangement between LMSD and Midwest Television, Inc., operators of 100.7 KFM-BFM (KFMB-FM) and AM 760 (KFMB-AM).
