Awards presented at Mar Vista High School Track and Field Banquet held Friday Night

The Mar Vista High School Track & Field Team held it banquet and awards ceremony Friday night at the West Coast Cafe. We have over 60 photos of the players and awards.

The Mar Vista High School Track Team held it banquet and awards ceremony Friday night at 

 the West Coast Cafe. Athletes, parents and friends & family were on hand. In speaking with Benny Holt, he credited the great job by Varsity Boys Track Coach Alton Colter for getting a large turnout.  Varsity Coach Alton Colter and Benny Holt praised what a great group of kids the team was to work with and thanked the parents for the great support and coming out to cheer them on. Training Coach Romero Crawford and Weight Coach Mike Albright help Coach Colter with the passing out of the awards and posed for pictures with the athletes they helped train. The team loved mixing and hanging around with the assistant coaches and they were a hit at the Awards Banquet..

This is the sequence of athletes that came up and awards that they received.
The first group of athletes that I called up were my JV boys team consisting of all freshman: Jake Goodwin (JV-Hurdler/Sprinter-Successful Participation Certificate), Zachary Dodd (JV Hurdler/Sprinter-Successful Participation Certificate), Marcelino Maclang (JV- Sprinter/Jumper-Successful Participation Certificate), Marcus Ramirez (JV- Sprinter-Successful Participation Certificate), Eduardo Casillas (JV- Sprinter-Successful Participation Certificate)

Note: all of the Varsity letters mentioned are the Varsity letters that they have received for track/field only. Many of our athletes participate in other sports.

Eduardo Casillas stays up and William Williard (Varsity Distance) comes up to receive his first Varsity letter and I have Sophomore Kyle Denney to join them for the All-Eyes Crew.

Juniors: Viviana Gurrola (V-Hurdler), Luis Martinez (Hurdler/Sprinter), Alfredo Ramirez 
 (Sprinter/Jumper), Khalil Spruill (Sprinter - 2015 Southbay League 100 meters champion) all received another of multiple Varsity letters.
Seniors: Adiana Dominguez (Sprinter) receives her 3rd Varsity letter and Cody Denney receives his first Varsity letter

Managers, Senior Briana Smith receives her 3rd manager's award and Outstanding Manager plaque and Junior Briana Hatefi receives her first manager's award and Outstanding Manager plaque.

Southbay Track/Field Second Team All-League recognized consisting of Freshman Lauren Wold (2nd team -300 meter hurdlers- 1st Varsity letter), Sophomore Kyle Denney League-400 meters -2nd Varsity letter),          4x400 meter relay team consisting of (Kyle Denney, Senior Xavier Williams-1st Varsity letter, Sophomore Jared York- 1st Varsity letter )

Missing from that the banquet was Senior Cleavland Camper who was a member that 4x400 meter relay.

Juniors Alondra Garcia and Jesus Borroel receive the Most Improved Female/Male Distance 
 Newcomers Award as well as their 1st Varsity letters.

Sophomore Rowena Mendieta (Sprinter) and Junior Nathan Lopez (Hurdler/Sprinter) receive the Most Improved Female/Male Sprinter Newcomers Award as well as their 1st Varsity letters

Juniors Jennifer Bascon (Distance) and Belen Flores (Distance)both receive the Most Improved Female Distance Runners Award as well as their 2nd and 3rd Varsity letters respectively.

Sophomore Ileen Aguirre (Hurdler/Sprinter) and Sophomore Kyle Denney (Sprinter) receive the Most Improved Female/Male Sprinters  Award as well as their 2nd Varsity letters.

Juniors Anthony Pimentel (Distance) and Juan Herrera (Distance) both received the Most Improved Male Distance Runner Award and 3rd and 2nd Varsity letters respectively.

Coaches Choice Award was received by Freshman Eduardo Casillas (Sprinter). Next Junior Noah Berry (Sprinter) received the Coaches Choice Award and his 3rd Varsity letter

Sophomores Alexa Bautizta receives the Most Outstanding Female Distance Newcomer Award and Priscilla Lang receives the Most Outstanding  Sprinter Newcomer Award as well as their 1st Varsity letters

Sophomores Frida Garcia and Anthony Sandoval receive the Most Outstanding Female/Male Thrower Newcomers Award and their 1st Varsity letters.

Sophomore Giselle Baniqued receives the Most Outstanding Female Thrower Award and her 1st Varsity letter

Sophomore Gillian Torres receives the Most Outstanding Female Sprinter Award and her 2nd Varsity letter

Junior Adrian Castro receives the Most Outstanding Male Distance Runner Award and his 2nd Varsity letter

Freshman Lauren Wold receives the Most Outstanding Female Hurdler Award

Seniors Lindsey Martinez and Xavier Williams receive the Most Outstanding Female/Male Jumper Award.

Seniors Hugh Anthony and Kaelin Washington both receive the Most Outstanding Male Thrower Award and 2nd Varsity letters

Sophomore Jared York receives the Most Outstanding Male Hurdler Award

Sophomore Rowena Mendieta and Freshman Eduardo receive the 1st Hoffman's Honorable Female/Male Award

The Leadership Awards  (Trophies) were presented to Senior Joseph Gill (receiving his 3rd Varsity letter), Senior Lindsey Martinez, Freshman Zachary Dodd, Sophomore Gillian Torres, Junior Paulo Garcia, Junior Juan Herrera, Junior Jennifer Bascon, and Junior Adrian Castro.

Senior Laisha Rosas (off white dress) showed up late to receive the Most Outstanding Female Distance Award and Varsity letter.
