Historical IB Tree that was City's Christmas Tree for over 30 years Chopped down and hauled away during the Middle of the Night Thursday.

The iconic pine tree at the west end of the Breakwater Town Center has been cut down! According to eye witnesses the deed was done in the dark night. Why? This tree served as the site where citizens gathered to celebrate the incorporation of our city, July 18, 1956. I know. I was there. In my work with the Imperial Beach History Committee I tried to save this tree. It was our Plymouth Rock. Now we have lost an irreplaceable part of our past. This act underscores the need to continue to work to preserve our history.
