Seniors, IB Council Woman Lorie Bragg and Others Share their Love of Imperial Beach History at Monthly Meeting. The Imperial Beach Senior Center was the site for the IB Seniors Monthly Meeting on Friday and a day were everyone there shared their love for Imperial Beach. IB Council Woman Lorie Bragg was the guest speaker and spoke about the City's 60th Anniversary coming up, about the group formed to help with it and make a plea for the seniors help in preserving Imperial Beach History.
Imperial Beach Council Member and Leader of the Imperial Beach History Group Lorie Bragg addressed members of the IB Senior Citizen's Group for about 20 minutes going over what the City of Imperial Beach is planning for its 60th Anniversary Celebration, what the other goals are of the imperial Beach History Group are for the City's 60th Anniversary Celebration and what the long terms of the Imperial Beach History Group were.
Also on hand from the Imperial Beach History Group were Joyce Ward, Linda Heath and Paul Spear.
Presenting and Speaking from the Seniors Group was Tito Gish, Eleanor Yachwan and Irene Callahan. They did excellent presentations on what was happen in Imperial Beach in earlier times and brought in copies of photographs and new clippings to share with the group that I will include in our "Photo Gallery".
Lorie also made a passionate plea for everyone at the meeting to go home and look through their closets, garage, attic or any other place were any old photographs, newspaper clippings or any other possessions they may have that represent Imperial Beach's History be kept and to consider giving or even loaning them to the IB History Group for the City's 60th Anniversary Celebration..
Lorie also spoke about the fact, for the first time now, Imperial Beach has in place the foundation to one day getting a museum in Imperial Beach to hold the City's rich history. Recently the South Bay Historical Society let Imperial Beach form its own independent chapter of the organization. Now with a 501.3c non-profit organization is in place so that people can donate funds and other items to the Imperial Beach Chapter of the South Bay Historical Society they can receive tax break considerations. Or, if you loan your items to the city were you will get an inventory list and photographs of what was loaned.
Joyce Ward from the IB History Group was there as that is one of the groups she is covering for the City if IB 60th Anniversary Celebration.
The Imperial Beach History Group works with the IB Chapter of the SBHS on the preparation for the City of Imperial Beach's 60th Anniversary Celebration to be held on July 15th at the Mayor's Breakfast which is part of the Sun and Sea Festival. The IB History Group plans to have a large booth displaying over 15 different categories of Imperial Beach History.
To achieve this they need your help! This cannot be achieved without you contributions be it financial, or contributing history you may have around the house. The group also needs members to help catalog the history they already have for the Celebration. Now anything donated is a TAX DEDUCTIBLE CONTRIBUTION or they will be happy to receive items on loan.
