Imperial Beach Residents get long awaited Present as Breakwater Town Center holds Groundbreaking Ceremony Thursday May5th on the open lot at 9th and Palm that has been empty for way to long due to changes in State of California Law changes covering Redevelopment. These changes in the law put the project in jeopardy and only by some very hard work by the City with Sudbury Properties were they able to get the project rolling again.

Back in March Sudberry along with their Public Relations partner Metz PR announced that they expected to be breaking ground back in April. However, a delay in the "Gold Shovels" they ordered for the event got delayed by the manufacture and they did not want to move forward without them for such a special occasion.

Finally, Thursday, May 5h, they were able to hold their Groundbreaking Ceremony with a good number of dignitaries on hand as well as representative from some of the businesses that have leased space in the Center and also 200 to 300 interested people from Imperial Beach who showed up to watch this long awaited occasion!

Back in March, when they announced they were going to be having a Groundbreaking Ceremony they announced some of the new tenants. Or what you and I like to say "What businesses did they get".

Here is what they had in regards to the businesses they had lined up to go into the Breakwater Town Center:

“I am also happy to announce that Grocery Outlet, a full-service national grocery store that sells brand-name quality products at substantial savings will be the anchor tenant in the first phase,” said Sudberry, noting that the store will feature Grocery Outlet’s NOSH department, showcasing Natural, Organic, Specialty and Healthy foods.

Grocery Outlet, which as more than 235 locations in California, Idaho, Nevada, Oregon, Pennsylvania, and Washington, will offer trusted brands such as Kraft, Kellogg’s, Tide, Tyson, Amy’s Kitchen, Naked Juice and many more.

“We are excited to expand our San Diego County Grocery Outlet family with this new store in Imperial Beach,” said MacGregor Read, Co-CEO of Grocery Outlet. “My grandfather started this business nearly 70 years ago. As a family-run business, we’re proud to say our values are reflected in each of our stores. From supporting Little League teams to donating food to those in need, our local owners share our commitment to making a lasting impact, and we know that will be the case here.”

Read noted that this is Grocery Outlet’s 12th store in San Diego County. Other locations include Point Loma, Poway and Downtown San Diego.

Sudberry added that there is an exciting array of restaurants and retailers that are interested in locating in Breakwater Town Center, including Starbucks, Jersey Mike’s, T-Mobile, Baskin Robbins, Chipotle, Five Guys, and Wing Stop, among others.

“Soon we expect to announce the full line-up of tenants for the first phase,” he said, noting that construction on the second phase of the center will proceed when tenant commitments can be secured.

So with the Groundbreaking today, a lot of pent up fustration over the wait is over. This just is a bit about the first phase of the project so there will be more news on this as we publish some more articles shortly with the additional information the company released today!

We will be sure to get you any additional news to you on this ASAP!
