Tijuana River Mouth is open again and flowing smoothly to Ocean

Tijuana River Mouth is open again and flowing smoothly to Ocean.

I spoke with the Imperial Beach Mayor Serge Dedina earlier today and got tipped off that work was being done to get the Tijuana River mouth open today. The River Mouth which closed during last weeks rain storms has caused bacteria levels in the Estuary to sky rocket as well as putting the feeding grounds of many birds that are on the "Endangered Species List" in danger. These are just a couple of many problems that were caused when the river ceased to flow into the ocean last week.

After the Mayor, Serge Dedina, told me that I contacted Brian Collins, Refuge Manager at the San Diego Bay and Tijuana Slough National Wildlife Refuges. Brian said that " the river mouth had been reopened and that the river water was flowing into the ocean at a very good rate. Brian went on to say that "We will see tomorrow morning how it persists overnight, but any flow out of the estuary right now is a victory on a number of fronts."

Brian also wanted to express "Special thanks to the City of I.B., our Research Reserve staff and San Diego NWR Complex staff for making this a smooth running project today."

Brian also said that this "Probably be on Channel 10 news this evening". Not knowing when he said this that my sister, Elizabeth Spear, has been hired bt the Channel 10 News Department. However, my sister hasn't started work yet so until the first day of work anything can happen,

I want to "Thank Brian and Serge" for getting back to me so quickly and supplying me with information updates on items that the community has big concerns about!
