U.S. Flag Half-Staff Alert! Effective Immediately Mon., Mar. 7, 2016 to Day of Interment In Honor of NANCY REAGAN

President Obama on Monday ordered flags to fly at half-staff to honor former first lady Nancy Reagan, who died this past Sunday at 94. 

The president issued a proclamation calling for flags to be lowered at the White House, military posts and all public grounds “as a mark of respect for the memory of Nancy Reagan.” 

Flags will fly at half-staff until sunset on the day she is buried alongside her husband at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library in Simi Valley, Calif.

The president and first lady Michelle Obamahonored Reagan as a trailblazer in the White House.

"Nancy Reagan once wrote that nothing could prepare you for living in the White House," theysaid in a statement Sunday. "She was right, of course. But we had a head start, because we were fortunate to benefit from her proud example, and her warm and generous advice."

They said Reagan “redefined” the role of first lady and praised her advocacy for Alzheimer’s research after Ronald Reagan was diagnosed with the disease in 1997. 

The former first lady died early Sunday of congestive heart failure, according to a spokesperson
