Photo of young Serge Dedina, Benny Holt, Jack Burns & former Mayor Brian Bilbray are First to Grace IB History Page on that was setup on Facebook Tuesday to help collect “Historical Photos of Imperial Beach for City’s 60th Anniversary Celebration this year.
The Facebook page was set up by Paul Spear of Dig Imperial Beach in hopes of collecting"Lost and Forgotten" history about Imperial Beach for the City of Imperial Beach's 60th Anniversary Celebration going on this year. On July 18th, 1956 the City of Imperial Beach came to be.
The City of IB will have a large booth on display at this years Mayoral Breakfast this year displaying 60 years of Imperial Beach's history run by City Council Woman Lorie Bragg, Paul Spear of Dig Imperial Beach has been asked to help her. over the years Lorie Bragg has become the unofficial person to take over collecting IB HISTORY after the passing of Freda Adams. In 2006 Freda Adams was named the Official City
Historian along with Jay Robbins by the City Council during the City's 50 Year Anniversary Celebration. She passed away in May of 2013 at which time Lorie Bragg unofficially took over that position.
According to many sources there was no one who knew anymore about Imperial Beach than Freda Adams. Her passing in 2013, at the age of 94, left a big void to fill. Admorealy, City Council Woman, Lorie Bragg, has been trying to fill those shoes and people have been turning in a lot IB history to her since Freda's passing.
According to various records and reports Freda Adams moved to Imperial Beach in 1942 before the city was officially formed and started collecting local history shortly thereafter when she decided to research her own family history. Freda Adams was a long time member of the Imperial Beach Women's Club and Friend of the Imperial Beach Library. In the 1980's Freda published a book about the history of Imperial Beach which has unofficially become the book on Imperial Beach's early history.
Now with the City's 60th Anniversary and another big celebration in the works, Council Woman Bragg has asked Paul Spear of Dig Imperial Beach to work the City's History Booth and will be helping collect and go through hers and the City's History collection and get it prepared for the City's 60th Anniversary Celebration.
AS part of that Paul Spear has put up a Facebook page to promote Imperial Beach Historywith hopes of getting more Imperial Beach History. If you have any you would like to turn in and have preserved it can be turned into IB Council Member, Lorie Bragg, or Paul Spear of Dig Imperial Beach. paul will see that it gets to Lorie Bragg.
