The lot at the corner of Date and Seacoast Drove, across the street from Pier South, has been a blight on the community for a long time as it has just been fenced off and trashed has continually accumulated in the lot and vagrants have used it as a place to sleep on occasion.
In September of last year Imperial Beach Mayor, Serge Dedina, and other city officials jumped the fence of the vacant lot and started cleaning it up. It is part of a larger program were the city has been working to pass a law to get all the chains on vacant lots removed and getting the lots cleaned up. And in doing so with the law if the owner doesn't remove the fence and keep the property clean the city will.
A pocket park (also known as a parkette, mini-park, vest-pocket park or vesty park) is a small park accessible to the general public.Pocket parks are frequently created on a single vacant building lot or on small, irregular pieces of land.
