During the ceremony the mayor let the onlookers know that in the
alley project that started paving early in the year the during the project paved 14 alleys which came out to a just under one mile in dirt alleys were paved for around $1,2 million the city had from an old City of Imperial Beach Redevelopment Agency Project.

The mayor went on t say that the current City Council has funded to pave the rest of the dirt alleys in the city and hope to have them done this time next year. He said most, but not all, of these alleys are north of Palm Avenue. Near Bayside Elementary and came out to about $550,000.

In the paving the first part of the alleys, the city had a special type of cement used that was more expensive but has a way of less pollution getting through down to the water of out ocean, the Tijuana Slough and the bay.
