Realtors® Take a Break from Annual Conference to Build a Habitat for Humanity Home for a Family in Need in El Cajon

Habitat for Humanity and the National Association of Realtors® Build a Home for Local Family

Major donation and volunteer effort helps make the dream of homeownership a reality

WHAT:                 San Diego Habitat for Humanity is pleased to announce its partnership with the National Association of Realtors®.  A donation of $50,000 and the generous talents of 100 Realtor® volunteers will help build a home, and offer a hand up to a local hardworking family in need.

The effort is in conjunction with the REALTORS® Conference and Expo, being held at the San Diego Convention Center from November 13-16. The event is the largest trade show in real estate, with nearly 400 exhibitors and an expected 20,000 conference attendees from across the United States and beyond.

Realtor® volunteers will be installing siding, roofing, mounting indoor fixtures, and landscaping at the final two homes of Habitat’s Foundation Lane Community in El Cajon.

To qualify for a sponsored Habitat for Humanity home, families must earn between 50 percent and 80 percent of the Area Median Income (AMI), or about $64,000 for a family of four. They also must meet specific criteria, including the need for improved housing, the ability to pay an affordable mortgage and willingness to partner with Habitat for Humanity throughout the process -- instead of paying a cash down-payment, families provide 250 hours of sweat equity per adult family member, helping to build their own homes and the homes of other partner families.
