SAN DIEGO, CALIFORNIA– On September 26, a total of 75 volunteers from Encore Capital Group in San Diego will come together with San Diego Habitat for Humanity (SDHFH) to help build a home for a local family in need.
The effort is part of the international finance company’s third annual Global Volunteer Day, with more than 400 employees across the United States and around the world building homes with Habitat for Humanity.
“Strengthening, and in this case, helping literally to build communities, is one of the goals of Encore’s corporate social responsibility efforts,” said Sheryl Wright, Senior Vice President of External Affairs at Encore Capital Group. “We are pleased to support Habitat for Humanity in its efforts to provide housing for families in need through significant cash donations and volunteer hours.”
Volunteers will be framing new homes on Foundation Lane in El Cajon, a community that Habitat broke ground on in June, during its Home Builders Blitz. They will also build four playhouses for needy children through SDHFH’s program that provides half-day volunteer opportunities for corporate groups at their own sites. SDHFH partners with other nonprofits such as the San Diego Military Family Collaborative and the Ronald McDonald House to provide playhouses that create creative pretend worlds for children who never dreamed they would have such a space of their own.
Encore Capital’s corporate philanthropy is helping to build homes like the one the Consuegra Family will move into, allowing them to move out of the house where their nine year old son sleeps in the hallway. That is what motivates Encore employees to volunteer. “We’re so excited. This house is a dream come true. It’s a foundation for my family, said Pavel Consuegra, a new Habitat homeowner in El Cajon. “Our lives are going to be changed forever.”
Encore’s Corporate Social Responsibility program, launched in 2013, focuses on economic empowerment and strives to help improve communities through better education, job training and basic support services.
“When you provide a family an opportunity to purchase their own home, you transform that family for generations to come,” said Lori Holt Pfeiler, President/CEO of San Diego Habitat for Humanity. “We bring hardworking families, dedicated volunteers, and generous sponsors together to build simple, decent, safe and affordable housing for local families in need. This mission is possible because of the support of great partners like Encore Capital, and we are so grateful that they are joining us once again toward this goal.”
The Encore Capital Group Global Volunteer Day activities will take place at 481 Foundation Lane in El Cajon. A project kick-off will begin at 8:00 am and will include remarks from executives from Encore Capital Group, Senator Joel Anderson, and San Diego Habitat for Humanity. Construction will commence at 8:30:00 am and will continue until approximately12:30pm.
