IB Woman's Club Luncheon Saturday was Filled with Fun. Dancers from MVHS Steal the Show!

Jun 22, 2015 06:21PM ● By Paul Spear
The Imperial Beach Woman’s Club (IBWC) held their Annual Luncheon Saturday. Everyone had a super time. They had a great catered BBQ Lunch from the Barbecue Pit with delicious BBQ Tri Tip Sandwiches with coleslaw, potato salad and baked beans.

That was followed by a live Singer/Entertainer, Carolyn Jayne with some great singing and period music. When she got to Chubby Checker's, "The Twist", some of the women got up and danced including a couple of women in their 90's. That got the crowd going and was a show stealer. Jayne had other songs that got the audience involved and it was very entertaining!

Dancers from Mar Vista High School Pan Asian Club performed dancing to native Filipino Music at the IBWC Luncheon. They are a volunteer group and do this as an after school activity. When they performed the Tinikling Dance was a show stopper as well as when the women got up and danced to the singer. Both events really stole the show. Tinikling is the most popular and best known dance of the Philippines, receiving acclaim as their national dance. The dance is similar to rope jumping, but instead of a spinning rope, two bamboo poles are hit against raised blocks on the floor and then together. Tinikling actually means "bamboo dance" in English. The dance requires one person to operate each end of the poles, and one or more dancers to move in and out of the poles.

After the MVHS Dancers were finished they raffled off some great prizes. Everything from a Romantic Getaway to a Children's Beach Package with everything a kid might want at the beach. They had gift certificates for very nice restaurants, A package of expensive Pots and Pans and much more.

Needless to say, everyone left with a big smile on their face.
