IB Fire Department & IB Lifeguards run Cars in SD Fair Demolition Derby to Benefit SD Burn Institute

Jun 08, 2015 02:19PM ● By Paul Spear

The IB Fire Department & IB Lifeguards ran cars on the opening weekend of the SD Fair. Both the Imperial Beach Fire Department and Life Guards had cars entered in the San Diego County Fair's Demolition Derby, held on Sunday. Proceeds from the Demolition Derby were raised to support the Burn Institute of San Diego.

Many local residents and businesses helped out both of our teams through monetary contributions as well as alternative methods; including, parts, labor and materials. Pastor Matt Henry from East Lake Church and IB resident Liisa Thomas owner of BodyWorks Collision were amongst the locals who helped both of I.B.'s derby teams. The Imperial Beach South Bay Kiwanis helped Sponsor the IB Lifeguards car. Last year the Kiwanis supported the Fire Departments car.

The IB Fire Department was the winner of last years derby. This year, Lakeside took home the win. C.J. Marin from the Fire Department ran car #39. It was a blue 1994 Lincoln Town Car with black flames painted on the front. Jason Lindquist from the Life Guards ran car# 18. It was a pink 1984 Chevrolet Caprice. See some of the photos and video captured of the event below. The community looks forward to participating again next year and is already preparing to attempt to take home the win.

IB Fire is # 39, their car is blue with black flames on it. IB Lifeguard is # 18, their car was BodyWorks Collision pink. Coronado Fire is# 36, their car was grey & black with Iridescent green wheels.
