Mar 20, 2015 10:16PM ● By Paul Spear

The residents of Imperial Beach have something to cheer about. TheIir voices were heard by the City of Imperial Beach and its Council Members voted to remove the Roundabout at the City Council Meeting held on March 18th.

The Roundabout was not popular from the very start and after a big outcry from the citizens of Imperial Beach its removal will start on March 23rd.

The City of Imperial Beach made the following Press Release today, March 20th:

Roundabout at 9th & Donax

The 90 day trial period for the temporary roundabout at the intersection of 9th & Donax has come and gone, and the Mayor and Council received public input at their regular meeting on March 18. While some residents were accepting of the concept, the general consensus of both Council members and public was that the idea of a traffic circle at this location was perhaps 'ahead of its time.'

The City is always reviewing ideas for traffic calming and to make our streets safer for motorists, bicyclists, and pedestrians. The temporary traffic barriers were ordered removed by the Council, and work will commence on Monday, March 23. Only minor traffic disruption is anticipated, so be alert and drive with caution at all times.

As always, we appreciate your comments and ideas for a better, safer Imperial Beach.
